Landscape Contact Day
The fourth Landscape Contact Day took place on the 13th of February 2009. It was a co-organisation of the Ename Center for Public Archaeology and Heritage Presentation, the Flemish Heritage Institute, the Free University of Brussels, Ghent University and the town of Oudenaarde. The contact day aimed to focus on the current research of historical landscapes, referring to townscapes as the case study and Brussels as the subject for the day.
The venue was the Spiegelzaal of the community centre De Markten, situated at the Oude Graanmarkt in the historical centre of Brussels. In the morning a number of recent landscape studies were discussed and afterwards the various aspects of a city landscape were dealt with more profoundly during two lectures. After lunch the focus was on the city of Brussels and the archaeological and historical relics of its eventful history.
Two guided walks offered the chance to get a closer look at these relics and to find out more about the history of the Brussels street scene. The day found its closing in the Sint Goriks hall with a drink and a bite which was kindly offered by our host, the Directorate for Monuments and Landscapes of the Brussels-Capital Region.
