The Celts continue to stir our imagination, but far too often we seem to be having a rather stereotypical representation of what they looked like. Archaeologists in Europe have now discovered quite a few new elements, especially related to the period around the fifth century Before our Common Era. These findings could readjust our mental picture, e.g. about the way the Celts dressed.

Invitation to participate at online survey on heritage interpretation

Ghent University, Belgium, and the Ename Center for Public Archaeology and Heritage Presentation, Belgium, are working on a research project dealing with the potentials (and the threats) of the use of new information and communication technologies for the interpretation of heritage sites.

'Casus Belli' travels through Europe

The documentary 'Project Casus Belli: Oudenaarde 1708' will be shown at the 9th 'CINARCHEA Internationales Archäologie-Film-Festival', to be held in Kiel (Germany) from 22 to 24 April 2010.

 

European Heritage Label puts Ename in the spotlight

On March 9th 2010 the European Commission has proposed to establish the 'European Heritage Label' as an EU-wide initiative. The Commission's proposal builds on a 2006 intergovernmental project that awarded this label for the first time to a number of sites, including the archaeological park of Ename.

Ename Center Awarded

The Ename Center for Public Archaeology and Heritage Presentation received a medallion for its outstanding role in the international image building of the Province of East Flanders. The nomination of the Ename Center for its meritorious achievements was made public on the annual new years reception of the province on the 11th of January 2010.

'DVD Project Casus Belli: Oudenaarde 1708' has been selected at the 8th Festival International du Film Archéologique to be held in Brussels from 5 to 8 November 2009.

DISH 2009

Through a workshop on heritage interpretation, The Ename Center will participate in the two-yearly international conference DISH 2009, short for Digital Strategies for Heritage.

Kortrijk’s Beguinage: Towards the interpretation of a UNESCO World Heritage Site

Kortrijk’s Beguinage (beguine convent) was added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List on 2 December 1998, along with 12 other, representative, Flemish beguinages. The inscription gave the Flemish beguinages international recognition as world heritage sites because of their 'outstanding universal value'.
